About TeaLamp

Tea, a lamp, and good reading.

Our story

How TeaLamp came about

TeaLamp is an online magazine for curious readers. The idea is simple: a quiet corner of the internet where you can make a cup of tea, switch on a lamp and spend a few unhurried minutes with a good article.

There is more excellent writing in the world than anyone can read, and a lot of it is hard to find. Much of it is also published under open licences that explicitly allow sharing and adaptation. TeaLamp brings together a careful selection of that work in one calm, readable place, always with full credit to the people who wrote it.

TeaLamp was founded by HB, who also edits the magazine. Alongside adapted articles, we publish short original explainers. All of our articles are written with the help of artificial intelligence and overseen by HB, who sets the editorial direction and rules, chooses the sources we trust and corrects anything that needs fixing.

Vision

Our goals and values

We believe that access to good ideas should be open. Well-researched, thoughtful writing can widen the way we see the world and help us make better choices, and it should not sit behind a paywall or a language barrier.

We are committed to choosing articles that are reliable, positive in spirit and genuinely interesting, written without political bias, without sensationalism and with respect for people of every background and belief. Our topics are Ideas & Opinions, Art & Culture, Lifestyle, Environment, Interviews and Business.

How we work

How articles are chosen and published

Every article on TeaLamp starts from a source we are legally allowed to republish. We only use work published under licences such as CC BY, CC BY-SA and CC0, in the public domain, or under terms that explicitly allow reuse with attribution. We never use paywalled text, and we avoid licences that forbid commercial use or adaptation. We check the licence on the page of each individual article.

Articles are selected for quality and checked against other reliable sources where facts matter. They are then prepared with the help of artificial intelligence: adapted, formatted and, where needed, translated. Pieces prepared this way are credited to the “TeaLamp Editorial Team”, and images created by AI are labelled as such. The author, the original publication, a link to the original and the licence are always shown. Read the details in our Editorial and AI Policy and our Copyright and Licences page.

We hope you will keep us company, one cup at a time, as we keep improving.
